Pros

None really, happened to meet some cool People at a really cool location at the time of my employment, but they have all since moved on because they were so poorly treated by management.

Cons

All of the negative reviews below nail it, take a serious look at them. Especially the responses to them too! Blaming bad reviews on “disgruntled employees” 1) these reviews are anonymous so they have no idea how to tell who they are 2) how can a small office have SO many disgruntled employees??? Says a lot about the culture and what they prioritize, which tends to be money over everything else. By the way, I left on a “positive” note, on my own terms. but I saw so many people’s mental health take such a downturn at matter west (Boulder and Portland offices), including my own, that I had to go to somewhere that actually values people and their livelihoods. The grass is truly greener on the other side folks, save your time and go somewhere else!

Pros

I started working at Matter less than a year ago, and my experience has been wonderful so far. Leadership provides a welcoming space for feedback and innovative ideas. The CEO is very involved in coming into the MA offices and talking to everyone like they are an equal. I came from a large agency where I did not have any communication with the CEO, so it means a lot that he puts effort into learning everyone's name and constantly tries to make Matter a desirable place to work with swag, benefits, etc. In terms of work, Matter is a place where you have an opportunity to advance your career and take more ownership of your work/specialization. The people here are incredibly smart and correspondingly rewarded with promotions - it seems like there is a promotion email notification every month. Ultimately, if you are good at your job, bring positivity to the team, and believe in constantly improving and innovating, you will do well here. Another perk of working at Matter is the amazing new Boston office. The office is filled with drinks and snacks that you can eat in one of the two kitchens. Matter also hosts social hours to encourage socialization and strong coworker bonds that translate to seamless teamwork with clients. Lastly, in addition to the office, people, and career advancement opportunities, Matter competitively compensates its employees, even with a great work-life balance culture. Every Friday, employees get early release at 2, and you get every holiday off on top of that (including the week between Christmas and New Year's). Other companies will typically reduce salary competitiveness if you get more time off to balance it out. This embodies Matter's mission to be one of the best places to work.

Cons

-Due to business highs and lows, Matter has had to make strategic decisions to increase and decrease staffing to balance workload and profitability, like all companies. Typically, if you are a strong contributor to your team, you don’t have to worry about layoffs. -Some companies offer more competitive PTO packages than 15 days, such as flexible PTO rollover or unlimited PTO.

Pros

Nothing. It used to be a safe place. Not at all anymore.

Cons

Horrific management. This is not a safe working environment at all. Leadership used to give out promotions frequently, which lead to untrained employees rising to the top. Many and most of them do not know how to operate a team, and most importantly, as a team. This means when clients start to get unhappy, those below are scrutinized to get immediate results with no help whatsoever. Those in the middle and below are faced to deal with an ungodly amount of work. I lost weight, developed a skin condition, and worked over time everyday and on the weekends. I still somehow was behind. Don’t even think about expressing your needs because they will not listen. Once I was in this pattern, I couldn’t get out. A select few of the managers would degrade me in front of the entire team, and it seemed like no matter what I did, it was never good enough. Now, I work for a company that respects me, and because I was in such a toxic workplace, I was shocked that I was treated as a human being. The negative and nasty comments will stick with me for a while. Now that I’ve left, my current manager at my new position sings my praises and many employees have told me that I am a top performer.
