Pros

Discounts, free stuff, learned about sustainability, WFH, some coworkers get it

Cons

Overworking people isn’t sustainable. People should get their time off during the holidays/weekends and not have to focus on business needs if everyone else from the team gets to relax. People shouldn’t have to work to meet deadlines during team meetups (which are supposed to be casual). Seems weird that they have these breath work team bonding exercises to “hold space” for self care or whatever but then they over work workers. Diversity is improving on IG but take a look at the team. There seems to really be no want to change since everyone basically has the same complaints yet everything is the same. As long as money is generating I guess. Management has no grasp on the consumer. Yet simultaneously does not listen to CX when they voice concerns. Then concerns happen and they’re like, :o oopsie! Realistically, management should know the processes of the things/people they’re managing. However, “I don’t know. Start an email with ____ and cc me” seems to always be the answer. Meetings (that can be emails) on top of meetings. Some people are naively ignorant. Some are more privileged than others and that’s life (that’s okay!). However, one anti-racism training via a private YouTube link isn’t going to fix that. MATE talks the talk about “doing the work” (like on IG LIVE, guided by the only Black person on the team—she quit btw). But outside of social media, eh. Clearly everyone has their own experience here. Some good, some bad. If you’re interviewing though, I recommend that you ask why MATE hires so much (in such a short period of time). And in case they meet you with “we’re expanding,”double down with a few follow ups like, what’s the turnover rate? For the people that recently left, how long were they there for? How many people have you hired in the last year? How big was your team at the beginning of the year? How big was your team at the end of the year? It might give some clarity.

Pros

It was a learning experience.

Cons

Similar to others' reviews, very judgey atmosphere and vague-yet-harsh communication. Upper management felt checked out, doesn't know how to have difficult conversations, expected the world from employees with the bare minimum in return. Not the worst job I've ever had, but just a very tense and cliquey atmosphere - so many questionable comments and ways of dealing with conflict that make me cringe to this day.
