Pros

Coworkers. There's a deep sense of camaraderie that comes from being treated like abused animals. Some of the best people you'll ever work with.

Cons

They’ll draw you in with decent pay and benefits, and then as soon as you are hired they will slowly crush your soul until you’re a shell of yourself. You’ll forget what it means to work in an ethical environment where you are respected and lauded for your talents. For most, it will be the worst thing to ever happen to your career. Employees are treated like disposable idiots whose incompetence is a burden to management (which couldn't be further from the truth; this company is brimming with incredible talent that is going to waste). You will live in constant fear of losing your job over something likely out of your control, though eventually getting fired would be considered a blessing. If you have anything to do with the company’s marketing efforts, any creative fire that you have will be stifled in favor of stealing other companies’ ideas. Get really good at using copy and paste; eventually it’s about all you’ll be doing. Even if you do exactly as they asked, be prepared for them to change their minds and act like you're the moron who doesn't get it. The executive team’s management style includes screaming, cursing, berating, demeaning and intimidation. This is not an exaggeration or an exception. Even simple expectations like an annual performance review will be unlikely to be met — you’ll probably get it months or even years late, and when you finally do it’ll leave much to be desired. You are rarely, if ever, recognized for anything positive you bring to the company. And just when you think it couldn’t possibly get any worse, they’ll find some way to make your life even more miserable. As others have said, don’t be fooled by positive reviews. They’re either fake ones generated by the company’s desperate HR team (no real person would ever mention the marketplace, health clinic or the city of Greensboro in their review of the company) or a distributor who believes the deception masterfully fed to them at company events and has never worked one minute inside the corporate headquarters. If this sounds like your dream job, by all means, go for it. There are plenty of positions available just inside the revolving door. But otherwise, just don’t do it. Save yourself the agony. It’s not worth it.

Pros

Collegues coworkers are supportive, partly because we all suffer from executive toxicity.

Cons

The founder of the company had true vision and was a natural salesman, but his passing has exposed deep holes in leadership. While a few of the remaining executives were directly involved in starting the business and possessed the skillset for a startup environment, they are utterly inept at managing a large organization. Furthermore, nepotism renders the Peter Principle as obsolete; the preference is to start people at their level of incompetence on day one. This disconnect at the top trickles down to daily operations, particularly in hiring. Managers and directors are tasked with interviewing and choosing candidates, only to have unknown, disconnected executives—who possess zero knowledge about the chosen candidate—arbitrarily instruct them to "keep looking" even after a candidate has already proven themselves as a Market America employee. Operationally, there is no Change Management process in place. Sudden strategic pivots—sometimes unprompted by actual market conditions—are enacted with remarkably poor communication. Because departments are heavily siloed, these abrupt changes only compound the widespread confusion and inefficiency. Culturally, while a heavy focus on the customer is warranted, absolutely no thought is given to employee well-being or professional growth. Consequently, turnover in the departments that directly serve employees is constant. Even the employee recognition program strays far afield from Human Performance Improvement best-practices. While the winners often merit the accolade, the process itself is effectively a popularity contest heavily skewed by managerial influence. With over 20 years in the workforce across multiple organizations, I can confidently say this is the worst company I ever worked for.
