Infinite promise destroyed by immature, nepotistic, temperamental leadership - Sales Mapbox Employee Review

Pros

Mapbox's products across their dozen+ APIs and SDKs are genuinely transformative, or have the potential to be, and what the company does is truly exciting. Industry and vertical agnostic, Mapbox helps companies innovate in location technology across the globe.

Cons

On the business team, the downside is infinite. I won't even stray into my subjective opinions and simply offer the following, objective truths: - 5 sales leaders in 5 years, combination of firings and resignations - Easily 30%+ attrition on the sales team within the first year of employment - All (5+ Dir/VP level) sales leadership fired in Q2 2019 despite hitting 2018 goal - COO, formerly of Twilio, left after 1.5 years - Multiple CFOs fired - Stagnant ARR growth over the last 2 years; company has flattened since start of 2018 That alone should give you some insight into the state of the business. The CEO, Eric, is notoriously difficult to work with, nepotistic, and moody - making abrupt business decisions at the drop of a hat and apparently insufferable to work under as a sales leader. As others have said, the only leaders who have stuck around are inexperienced, underqualified friends from his inner circle, while highly experienced and successful industry executives across every job function churn out the door like it's going out of style.

Pros

* Supportive and collaborative environment * Few big egos, at every level people are supportive/collaborative (see point 1) * International perspective * Developer/open source community focused * Huge documentation focus because of the multiple time zones, which helps with good cross-team communication * Well organized HR and training so that onboarding is smooth * Good benefits, volunteer time off, PTO, relaxed atmosphere with professionalism * Well-established business with clear goals

Cons

* Can be difficult to coordinate meetings across time zones (on the positive, this leads to fewer meetings and better documentation/written communication!) * Lots of moving parts, can be hard to see across whole company

Pros

Some of the smartest people I've ever worked with as colleagues. Really interesting technology and problem space. Remote work and ownership culture are highlights.

Cons

CEO micromanages, doesn't delegate authority, and rarely celebrates success. He is not an inspiring leader to work for. Planning procedures do not allow resources to be managed for Automotive, resulting in repeated misses on goals and a lot of reactive work.
