Pros

Heavily resourced Seems to ‘walk the walk’ Aware of current ed issues

Cons

No instruction given to students No support for kids to develop better social skills More concerned with appearing to do the work than doing it Special ed low expectations pre-IDEA alive and well Ignore unsafe student bx and choices Reinforce stereotypes of marginalized populations behind closed doors Could be your last straw in education

Pros

Most staff can agree that the school is overall great for students seeking an alternative education. The school's core values are what drew me to it, and there are very few other schools like Map in Massachusetts. The school provides many resources for both staff and students. Great pay and benefits! Okay work environment.

Cons

While working here, handling various negative student behaviors has been extremely difficult. I feel there’s little support from the directors in effectively addressing these behaviors. I also feel that a staff member, whose job is to help students on a personal level, could do a little more than dismiss behavioral issues in a quick one-on-one meeting with the student. It seems easy for teachers to cover up a students’ behavior/actions simply because they are close with the student. Students who are close with multiple teachers and staff considered "higher up" are almost guaranteed to never be held accountable throughout their time at this school. A con mentioned in another review is that the school primarily focuses on one type of kid. I don't fully agree with that statement, but there's some truth that some students' needs are overlooked because they are more reserved or that some staff may believe their needs are not as important. Despite these challenges, the students are the reason I love working here. I just wish the directors and assistant directors would do more to address the issues I mentioned.
