Pros

I was looking for reviewers from authors before I signed, but could not find any, so I decided to share my experience. My experience with Manning Publications as an author was very negative. As expected, the contract terms were highly skewed to their advantage. They failed to specify when they would do certain actions like pay royalties, but they specify clearly the timeline when you need to finish work. They fail to fully pay you and make excuses not to. Marjan is very stingy and try to keep every cent, even money that is owed to you according to the contract. Very weird accounting practices for royalties and I and other authors suspected that they did not actually pay me what I was owed. They tried to outsource everything for free. They don't pay technical reviewers or technical editors which lead to horrible work. Horrible, unprofessional. If I could do it again, I would have picked a different publisher.

Cons

Avoid. They really advantage of novice writers. I would try a larger more professional publishers.

Pros

The fact that it is always remote is nice. You also get the opportunity to try new approaches if something isn't working (within reason).

Cons

There tends to be an expectation to always be available even when you're off or on vacation. Setting that boundary can have pushback.
