Pros

Famous “Friendly Manitobans” where ever you go in the company. Great people to call coworkers. TEAM is a very good Union which will not give up the fight for fair treatment, collective agreements and ... Fortunately, TEAM (over many fights with the company) has mastered in its ways and has high sensitivity for slightest misdeed (by MTS) and will defend employees to a great extent.

Cons

This place is a Boys club. Everyone higher up is a “Player” and if you are not a good player, you don’t move up. Proportion/percentage of Ethnic, Female and colored people in management positions are undeniably obvious. And higher up you go the worst it gets. MTS will stop at nothing in order to drive up the shares and make itself look profitable. I am talking about multiple human rights violations, unreasonable terminations, creative and old-school dirty tricks to move people around and get rid of them. I could go on and on but I guess you get the idea, don't waste your precious time and life with this company.

Pros

Reasonable work environment, company trying hard to reverse very long-standing attitude of employee entitlment and to level the silos and playing field for younger incoming staff by changing this with the older staff who are mid-career and those who are near to retirement. Training is mostly on the job or on-line now. Leadership is mixed, good at the top but doesn't always get implemented by mid-mgmt who are set in their ways a little - many people trying tho'.

Cons

Still a lack of recognition of female employees to rise up to more mid-mgmt and Director-level jobs (endemic in telecom) - slowly changing but the pace is glacial. Compensation is OK but the company is dragged down in its results by the Allstream purchase of 2004 and its inability to sell Allstream to others (last bid was cancelled by the Fed Govt in 2013 - due to national security concerns possibly over some Chinese involvement with the Egyptian-based potential buyer - this was a blow to MTS who as the original company would be better off going back to the original state - no knock on the Allstream staff, etc. but the acquisition of that company in 2004 was not the right fit).
