Pros

The only positive aspects of my time here were my students and some of my colleagues, who helped me stay sane in an otherwise toxic environment.

Cons

I worked at this institution, and it was one of the most challenging and frustrating experiences I’ve had in my career. Here’s why: Lack of Proper Training: New staff, including myself, were not provided with adequate training by the faculty. You’re essentially left to figure things out on your own. Favouritism and Bias: It's evident that certain staff members are favoured, and the bias in treatment is hard to ignore. This creates a divisive and demoralizing work environment. Poor Delegation and Last-Minute Decisions: There was no proper delegation of tasks, and timetables for lecturers were given last minute. Everything felt rushed, which severely impacted the quality of work and planning. Activity-Based University: This place is overly focused on events, to the point where academics seem secondary. There are too many activities, and lecturers are expected to attend every single one, with attendance being tracked. No Respect for Personal Time: Lecturers are regularly expected to work on weekends with no extra pay, stay back for meetings after hours, and attend all university events. There’s no consideration for work-life balance. Micromanagement: The management constantly micromanages the staff and lacks trust in their lecturers. We were often treated worse than children. No Work-Life Balance: This is a 24/7 job, which speaks volumes about the culture here. Extremely Low Pay: The salary does not reflect the workload at all. The pay is extremely low, especially when you consider the long working and teaching hours, combined with the endless events that lecturers are required to attend for the university’s publicity. High Cost of Living: Everything on campus is expensive—food, parking, and other basic necessities. This adds further strain on staff members, given the already low pay. In summary, this workplace left me EXTREMELY burnt out and frustrated, with no respect for my time, effort, or financial well-being. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values their mental health, work-life balance, or fair compensation.
