Now if you are looking for more in your employment than some miniature frat life OR you aren’t a fan of shady management that uses outdated war tactics to undermine their employees then I highly suggest you avoid this company at all costs. DO NOT BELIEVE THE RATINGS. The reason you are only reading 5-star reviews is that people sign away their rights in order to get some kind of compensation after they’ve been screwed over by the company. All that family-friendly work environment they are trying to peddle is nonsense unless the family they are referring to is the Corleones.
This company will pretend that it is progressive and has a great work culture. They will tell you how much they appreciate “candor” and “openness”. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. It is a facade. They are threatened by people who are direct and competent. They do not want anyone to oppose their shady tactics and inefficient techniques. If you have morals, a brain, AND a backbone, this company is NOT for you. They want sheep. They reward incompetency. Ironically, the one person that constantly demands that no one has an ego is the person with the biggest ego by far. Again, they will tell you that they are not but if you challenge them in any way, you will be on the chopping block. They don’t want your ideas and your opinions. They want your obedience and blind loyalty. The leadership is threatened by backbones. In the last year, around 50% of the employees have either been fired or laid off. In less than 6 months, two out of five executives were fired and an alarmingly significant amount of really great talent resigned. However, if you are an incompetent female and you get the job, flirt with upper management and you will advance. If you are an incompetent male and you get the job, be the CEO’s “yes” man and he will reward you with promotions and job security. If you are a competent male or female and you get the job, it will be a daily dose of demoralization to see incompetent people advance for simply stroking the ego of the CEO.
Now that we established they lie about what they want in a work environment, let's discuss how they lie to employees (both potential and current). The first example relates to how the company prided itself on being “profitable”. It was a huge selling point for them both in job postings and in interviews. It’s how they lured potential employees to make the move to the area only to lay them off a couple of months later … for not being profitable. The actions of upper management over the past year illustrates that this has been and continues to be a sinking ship. Another example is how they have no qualms about promising things to employees and then going back on their word (which might explain why paranoia permeates the entire office).
If you ever have to deal with this company in any sense, remember that they should not be trusted. Seriously, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a job. I especially advise anyone even thinking about making the move to San Mateo area for this job to refrain from doing it. The leadership at this company is immoral and won’t even think twice before screwing you over. Do not trust them. The entire culture they present in their postings and videos is a facade. The reality is that Man Crates is a fumbling company, being lead by an oversized-ego with zero morals that is grasping at anything in sight in order to survive another year.
