Pros

The office is easily accessible via public transportation with a nice view of the Art Institute of Chicago. There are plenty of lunch options near the office.

Cons

Magnani thrives off of hiring cheap talent and keeping employees at low levels to make ends meet. Yearly layoffs and phase outs when billing dips. Summer Fridays and other benefits only apply to upper management and insider clique. Serious bed bug problem. Sexual harassment issues with the President.

Magnani Response

At Magnani, we are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive workplace. But if it left you feeling undervalued or personally dismissed, we failed you on that count, and you have every right to publicly voice your opinions of your time here. However, we would like to address some misstatement of facts in your review of our firm. We do not take the livelihood or welfare of our employees lightly. There are no planned annual “phase outs,” and what one might consider “layoffs” have happened twice in the 30-year history of the company. Both times were due to the conclusion of a significant client relationship. This was unfortunate, to be sure, but also the reality of our industry. The eligibility to take advantage of Summer Fridays is equal across all departments and levels of seniority. And while we can't guarantee everyone gets every Friday off (we have to make sure we're meeting our clients' needs) we do our very best to ensure that everyone experiences this well-deserved benefit with an assigned rotating summer Friday schedule. While we did have a minor bedbug issue at one time (as have many Chicago office buildings and hotels in the past five years), there have been NO bedbugs in our office for over two years. And to make sure we prevent any future bedbug problems we periodically have the office inspected by multiple canine teams to ensure no future incident, should it ever occur, goes undetected. No sexual harassment claims or complaints have been levied against any member of the firms’ management team or employees, ever. –Felicia Stanczak, C.O.O.

Pros

At Magnani you work collaboratively with all levels within the organization and have are able to have a voice no matter what level employee you are. Being a small agency you are able to wear many hats, gain experience in a varieties of projects from traditional to web and everything else in between. They value continued learning through conferences and open knowledge sharing. The Partners of the company are very approachable, great resources and treat all employees with respect. As an account person, you must be willing to take on several clients and all of their projects that you oversee from start to finish. In most cases you may be the only person on the account, which allows you to own that client relationship, but also can lead to heavy work loads. If you work hard, have a passion for what you do and are a team player you will do well here.

Cons

Cons for some... - Due to the nature of the business and size of the company the work/life balance is not always the best. - Account structure is not robust, almost all Account people report to Director of Client Services, who is extremely busy overseeing all accounts - High expectations for new hire account people with onboarding process that is not a viewed as a priority, thus leading to a lot of new hire account people turnover
