Pros

- Allows for a very flexible schedule among their High School staff members. - Very good compensation for a starting job (Especially for high schoolers). - Very nice and understanding upper management. - Good place to expand and learn your knowledge of a wide range of basic concepts.

Cons

- Not the sort of company you could remain at long term unless you are upper management. - Some of the staff didn't necessarily help out all that much, especially over the weekend slots which made it very busy sometimes.

Pros

Easy job if you don't care. Flexible. Cool to work with kids. Coworkers are nice. Have access to neat toys like a 3D printer.

Cons

The people who run the show aren't technical and aren't educators so you'll have coworkers who know less than the middle school students. Coworkers can end up causing issues in the classroom since they can give out bad advice so they end up telling kids to figure it out themselves since it's project based. Other afterschool coding places pay a lot more and probably actually care about their students. This place pays the same as working as a bank teller or other min wage jobs. Despite being a small business, they have rigid policies that they try to enforce and don't really think about individual cases. Management is also split up into geographical city states between different people. So the only way to get things done or get a raise is to kiss up to whoever is running your location. If someone doesn't like you, you can just get canned out of nowhere. Culture actively discourages trying to fix things but rewards falling in line even if you know it's not the best thing to do and can result in the loss of a student. Staff are also trained to actively antagonize students here and expect the worse of them. Some treat the older/slower students like babies and are actively toxic around them. Just go work for any other teaching kids to code company because this place doesn't. Most other places start at 20/hr anyways.
