Pros
If you want to make quite a bit of money fairly quickly - that's literally it.
Cons
As others have said -- the scheduling, and the fact their is none. Especially on MWD side of the job. Being told when hired "end of the year you should see a schedule" - well I've been home a total of 2 weeks out of a 6 month stretch. Sorry, I'm not going to lose my family over a job, it's well known that in this line of work divorce and breakups are common. Not going to lose the ones I love because they want to work you to the ground. The absolute worst is even if you accept the fact you will be working 24/7 for months on end, there is ZERO communication about days off, or rig moves, or any of that. So even if you do get a few days off, you can't plan anything you can't go anywhere. Basically with this job at this company all you will do is work, or sit around waiting to hear from work. I can accept the fact I've missed major holidays, but I don't even know when I get to go home to celebrate early or late. ***Not knowing is the worst part. *** They will tell you "oh yeah you'll be on site 2 or 3 weeks -- and 6 weeks later you are still there, no relief in site. The directional drilling department seems to be better managed as they have a loose rotation of 20 on 10 off. Why can't the same be done for MWDs? There's an issue with trust and truth from the higher ups -- nothing is worse than finding out you are working non stop for months, and there's plenty of newly hired relief hands in Texas just sitting around not working.
