Pros

MPHI is an employee-friendly environment: happy employees doing good work in a positive company culture. MPHI's work is exceptionally diverse, with many different groups, each of which also engages in diverse work. MPHI employs many different skills sets, and there are many opportunities for training and transfer. The work is mostly Federal- and State-funded (which is a double-edged sword--see "cons" below). There are many opportunities for work (as an MPHI employee) with the State of Michigan. MPHI offers exceptional employee benefits--probably among the most generous in the Lansing area. The MPHI campus and offices are clean and well maintained. Parking is free at the main campus.

Cons

Since the work is government-funded, it might not be as well organized or managed by the State and Federal governments as in the private sector. Possible result: personal frustration and dismay at how tax dollars are spent. While MPHI as a whole demonstrates exceptional funtional and political skills, the supervisory and management "culture" can be less than ideal (not best practice) in some areas.

Pros

This review applies to internal staff, not to those who work for the State of Michigan. Great culture of teamwork and camaraderie. Good office culture, decent benefits, and flexible remote work options. Really varies with your leader.

Cons

The leadership is naive (especially the C-suite) - they think they know everything but rarely listen to staff. They pay themselves very well, while staff members, at times, struggle to receive proper compensation. This difference may at times be based on how you are funded. There are some personalities (in leadership and those who influence) that are toxic, seek to exclude, create in-groups and out-groups, division, and manipulate it. At times, those in leadership acquiesce to these personalities.
