Pros

Great company for working mothers. You’d be challenged to find a company that is more accommodating to part time work (can work 20 hrs/week and receive full time benefits). The company benefits are top notch (10% match). Awesome work life balance.

Cons

Highly political environment. There is definitely a ‘good old boys’ network here where grooming occurs. I don’t mean mentoring, I mean selections early on. It’s rare to see the hardest working person get to the top. It’s normally the people who are heavy in marketing themselves and are comfortable putting their names on others work. If you are fine with being a churner who gets little to no credit, this will be fine for you. The CEO is not liked overall. Bad leadership and very political. They would have these ‘Covid update’ calls where half the time it was comments that had nothing to do with Covid. I recall one of his executive leaders make a statement like ‘now that we have a good president in charge…’. This was over a phone call where all employees were invited. After I left, vaccines were forced on employees by the CEO (vaccinate or quit). The entire MIP (mitre internal research) program is a joke. It’s completely political. I used to be told I have to encourage new employees to submit ideas knowing very well they had almost no chance of getting it. The same people win every year and they get it because they are in the same department as the area leads (those who make the decisions). Salaries are not competitive with market BUT the benefits are very generous. Job security is a pro but they keep some pretty poor performers due to it. Promotions take forever. It’s hard to move up the chain. Some people leave the company then come back several years later just for the promotion.

Pros

Great diversity, quality of life and staff. Been with MITRE over 20 years.

Cons

Too many VP,s that are not held accountable. Company recently RIF'd 24 staff from FAA FFRDC, due to dropping gov't funding...yet company has significant number of VPs all sucking off of overhead. No attempt to manage money within the "leadership" ranks. Last year company went through a major business transformation...that failed...yet, VPs held staff accountable for reporting on a subpar system that lasted over 12 months. Could not even get business data to report to gov't for over 2 months, yet, person who was in charge of the business transformation is still at MITRE. If this happened to any other MITRE employee, they would've been gone. Oddly enough the person in charge of the business transformation is the CEOs brother. Amazing how that happens. He'll probably get a bonus because of his substandard performance. MITRE recently invested in opening up an office in Australia. All on company overhead. significant large numbers of VPs travelling out to "visit"...yet company has the audacity to reduce benefits as part of cost cutting measures. Company has now taken on a "for profit" mentality. It's all about delivery... so VPS and GMs can spend, spend, spend. Board of Directors should take a good look at what is happening and make some swift changes from the CEO on down. BOD should also implement an independent IG like entity to investigate what is seeming like waste, fraud and abuse by CEO, GMs and VPs. Time for the Fat Cats to get purged!!!
