Pros

Great pay compared to other non-profits in the area Benefits are outstanding - 5% 401k matching, HMO plan with low copays, FSA, 15 days PTO + sick and paid holidays, pension plan, subsidized T passes, and much more.

Cons

There is a lack of professionalism and respect throughout the Institution. You will more than likely be doing the work of 2 people - MIT calls it "operational efficiency" when it's really just cost minimization at the expense of employees' wellbeing.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
