Pros
Great culture of really capable people who work together well with a willingness to help each other. Big, strong company with an excellent reputation based on data in the form of very high client satisfaction ratings (report cards). Excellent infrastructure and systems, methodologies and collateral, fully developed. Large enough that there are specialists handling proposal and estimating, dedicated project managers, industry managers, safety and quality groups, etc. versus everyone having to do everything wearing a lot of hats. Lots of good clients and references, great marketing and reputation, so sales staff has a lot to sell with very little to prevent them from winning orders. The company holds on to engineers during slow periods, there is no churn and burn. Leadership takes a long view, but is very tied into day to day performance, and very accessible. Their is very good leadership communication and communication across the company and groups. Employee development is taken seriously, with lots of training made available and career paths laid out for everyone, so room to grow. Facilities are all top notch. Lot's more to say, but you get the picture. And no, this is not a management review by someone who is still with the company. I'm no longer with them, but respect and admire the company and the CEO.
Cons
MAVERICK is a do what it takes kind of company. People willingly work hard because there is a lot of professionalism and team spirit. The hours can be long when projects and situations demand it. But then engineers can rest during slow times when they are kept onboard even though they're idle for a few weeks, or longer. People in management and sales positions work long hours and generally enjoy it. There is a lifestyle that people get used to and come to enjoy, for the challenge and for the involvement working with so many talented, dedicated people. It is not a 9 to 5 environment, and people who think like that do not last. There are times when you will be pushed to your limits. It goes with the territory.
