Most people are under appreciated, there are easily identifiable glass ceilings, pay rates are low for this region of the nation (based on ACS data). The company is very top heavy with management. Also, the company is an SBIR proposal mill, happy to live off of government contracts, with empty promises to push products to market with zero intention of actually doing so. At best, the company may consider licensing a product to another company or spinning off a company, but this has not happened in a long time. Additionally, overhead rates make it very difficult to apply enough man-hours and supplies into a project to build it to a stage where a product could actually go to market.
Most all projects are managed by senior (PhD level) people with little management experience and occasionally poor social skills (they're smart people, but poor managers).
Finally, not many opportunities for personal growth and other training here. Typically, only senior-level people are allowed to go to conferences.
