Pros

Given real responsibility early on Possibly good opportunities for innovation across manufacturing processes and part design Most employees are friendly and hard working Decent benefits (but low pay)

Cons

Too much responsibility, too fast, without proper training and preparation Good, cool opportunities for innovation only come after the expected 60 hour/week of work Consistently unreasonable expectations for project schedules, wouldn't take what I thought into consideration, this made each project extremely stressful Facilities and budget for proper tools and equipment subpar Lack of appreciation and respect for hard work, often the opposite (disappointment) if a project was slipping behind (the unreasonable) schedule. These projects were usually even more and harder work. Unable to commit to any weekday evening plans due to long, sometimes unexpected hours (and sometimes working weekends too) Low pay - didn't realize this until I moved on. My next employer offered me more than what I said for salary expectations (this happens?!), after warning me pay might be below market. Most of these things I didn't fully understand until my next engineering position.

Pros

Lumenous provides devices that are the vanguard of the industry. These devices are nothing less than art. They save lives with each piece produced. Salaries are quite good. Company has NEVER had a lay off. Health benefits completely company paid! Retirement and Safe Harbor offerings. New grads get to see things never been done before and be a part of the fabrication of those devices and prototypes. Leadership gives back to community through numerous teaching seminars. Stanford University affiliations.

Cons

This is a unique place in that there is a passion for the work which at times demands that time and effort be paramount for customer satisfaction and company reputation. One must be prepared to work, not just take a paycheck.
