      Embarq squandered opportunity. - Group Manager Lumen Employee Review

      Pros

      The best reason to work for Embarq is living in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The people there are fair and decent. The company is populated with decent, honest people. Unfortunately, the world changed and left the company's leadership and culture ill-prepared to deal with a more competitive world. The internal culture is one of midwestern values where there is very little back-stabbing or ruthlessness.

      Cons

      The company is failing. There is a glut of mediocre talent at Director levels of management that rose in previous boom times. Most of them would not warrant those same positions today. The company is mired in its methods and thinking. It makes well-intentioned but unsuccessful efforts to refresh its thinking.

      Pros

      work life balance, excellent time off so long as manager doesn’t micromanage/track and limit FTO, nice people, leadership has turned the business around.

      Cons

      No pay raises even with great performance review (5years with zero raise) No career growth/progression - been on a high-performing team for 5 years and not one person on the team has been progressed or promoted during that time. Little opportunity for career advancement and growth New jobs within the company are going to external hires, not much grwoth for current employees
