Noxious corporate environment, but the pot plants are nice. - Scientific Director Lucid Group Employee Review

Pros

Some of the agencies acquired by Lucid used to be excellent. As a result, there are still some effective people there. However, they are increasingly thin on the ground. Diversity and inclusion tends to be good. Corporate discount package. Trendy meeting room names. Senior management talk the talk (a lot),..... but never follow up with any actual action to instigate meaningful positive change. They do love a spot of corporate jargon though. So, if you’re really good at corporate jargon, then this could be the company for you. However, if you don’t have enough corporate jargon to sparkle, but you’re particularly interested in working way over your contracted hours, every week bar few, and under conditions of high stress, then this may still be the place for you. Pot plants. Some are green.

Cons

Top heavy with senior management, some short on relevant experience and empathy, but good at generating internal conflict. They have bred a toxic atmosphere that’s totally focused on driving the financials. Strict timesheets and utilisation targets; there is constant pressure to book in solely billable time thus eliminating any time for any creative thinking by middle- or junior staff. Then there's the lurking recoverability targets. There's no escape! There is little importance placed on servicing the client properly. It’s just about squeezing the maximum out of any project. Writer workload management is poor, and overworked writers are just regarded as an easily interchangeable resource. A lot of unhappy and stressed people. To be frank, I can't see who would post a 5 star review. There has been massive turnover in staff in the last year. Ask any recruiter, it's no secret. It’s clear evidence of a broken culture.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, even if it is painful to read. It’s clear that your experience during your short time at Lucid was a challenging one. There are some points on which we agree – that Lucid has brilliant people, that we are committed to diversity and inclusion, that we offer great benefits. And I also agree that there have been periods of intense pressure during the last year, and that we must continue to improve our culture and to manage workloads better. That’s why when our new Head of Culture, Diversity and Sustainability starts on Monday he will be leading an exercise in partnership with external experts to engage our global organisation in defining and co-creating our shared culture, and putting practical actions in place to bring it to life. It’s why we implemented a recent exercise to rebalance our resources across teams to ensure that pressure points were relieved with the extra support needed to deliver for clients. It’s why we’re committed to leading projects that streamline our internal ways of working to give colleagues back the time to focus on what matters. And it’s why in our latest engagement survey, people’s belief that action will take place jumped by 15%. Management do care, and we will act, together with everyone at Lucid, to deliver positive change. Change does take time, and I am sorry that you did not feel able to stick with us, but I am excited for the concrete and impactful plans that we have ahead to make Lucid a better place to work for everyone who does.
