Pros

Great coworkers, 6% match on 401K, 3 week of vacation to start. Good for people who don't want to drive to Montgomery county.

Cons

Good employees get burnt out and leave. The only people who move ahead are the ones who are willing to step on others to get there. Some people have better luck than others moving between departments, I haven't yet determined if the reason some people are prevented from changing departments is due to an ineffective HR or if certain supervisors sabotage some employees chances but it's certainly not the case that the most effective people get the best opportunities. The pay is only competitive if compared to other biotech companies in Walkersville (there are none) Even working in Frederick 10 minutes away will get you a few thousand more dollars. Management has reorganized so many times they're going back to how things were before. QC and Cell Therapy should be avoided by anyone who isn't entry level or unemployed do to the high stress/ poor work life balance. I'm pretty sure the turnover rate for 2014 was around 20%.

Pros

Compensation (for higher level associates/senior management positions)

Cons

1) Work/life balance - leaders don't honor paid time off. Many teams expect you to be available during paid time off periods 2) Benefits - employer doesn't offer employer-subsidized vision insurance 3) Holidays - employer doesn't offer MLK Day and Juneteeth as paid days off, indicating how little they value diversity, inclusion, and belonging 4) Promotions - political; not based on merit 5) Mandated 5 day return-to-office to enable "in person collaboration" while at the same time offshoring jobs to cheaper markets. 6) PTO - based on tenure, but I think Lonza prefers high turnover so they don't have to give people time off (if they even honor it in the first place - see con 1) 7) Lack of harmonization - for an established CDMO, I was surprised at the level of misalignment between sites and the lack of standardization of processes
