This company is small and vibrant with a very small corporate structure and lots of transparency. Although salary has been notoriously on the low side for many years, they do not work you to death like many other companies do. They understand work life balance and 40 hours is the norm with very rare exceptions. Furthermore, they seem to be catching on to the idea that pay has got to improve to be able to retain talent and recent management has been fighting for and winning competitive salary for engineers. You see the impact of your work in emerging features on a regular basis, showing features directly to the sales team and getting feedback from them.

As others have mentioned, there has been issues with management being a bit overbearing but I have observed that behavior to have decreased over time with greater trust being put into the teams and team leads. This company works with some dated technologies and is slow to adopt newer technologies. I think this is due to a lack of familiarity and thus ability to tackle all the newest things rather than an unwillingness. If you can see a clear case for a technology and can sell it as well as make it happen, you will not encounter excessive resistance.
