Pros

Good benefits for employees Care about the animals in their care Good work-life balance

Cons

After 2 months employment at Moor Cottage Veterinary Hospital under the Linnaeus Group, they decided to terminate my 6 month contract under the terms 'I didn't meet the standards required for the position'. This termination came around very suddenly and, coincidently, at the exact same time the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in the UK - the lockdown happened the very next day. At no time, had I been asked to improve, or had a conversation to explain where I had gone wrong. How was I to improve if I hadn't had any feedback? I asked for specific examples, as without this feedback I am at a loss as to why they let me go. I couldn't have improved during my probation period because I didn't know there was an issue. Had this been managed with me, it would have given me a chance to grow and improve as necessary. I was looking forward to promoting the company and services. Now my confidence has been knocked and I am still unsure as to what the reasons are. I was completely unaware that my performance was not as expected. At no time did anybody tell me I was not undertaking tasks correctly. I had even volunteered to help with extra admin jobs and grow social media awarenesses which was well received. I had received positive feedback from management as well as my co-workers on reception when I asked how I was doing and if there was anything I could improve on - which nothing was outlined. This experience has again really knocked my confidence. I am now having to apply for other jobs during this challenging time of COVID-19 and beginning to question my abilities. I was not been given an opportunity to remedy anything I wasn’t doing properly. I was only been in the role for 7 weeks out of a 6 month probation so I am wondering whether there was a different reason (i.e. COVID-19) for releasing me from this role. Either way, it was not a great employee experience. I have expressed my concerns to both Moor Cottage management and Linnaeus HR, and requested feedback on what I could have done differently and the specific reason as to why they released me so early into my probation. They are yet to get back to me.

Pros

Genuinely really good people who are all trying their best in difficult circumstances. Hybrid work model is as good as any other business in the midlands - is fairly unmonitored. Base pay was reasonable

Cons

Reorganisation in late 2025 with Mars Veterinary Health was detrimental to Uk & I business. Lots of fire fighting and proposed processes that are unfit for purpose. Work life balance became a thing of the past. Outside of salary, other benefits are lacking - stat min pension, no optionality to buy or sell holiday. PMI for some but not for others.

Pros

The RVNs, PCAs, Interns, Client Care Team and the majority of Clinicians - all collaborative and working to the best of their ability for the patients.

Cons

Unfortunately in a state of decline in the years post acquisition. More bureaucracy and power-hungry middle-management, which leads to ground floor staff being overworked and often insufficient cover to manage patients in hospital, due to burn-out, illness and lack of colleague sustainability being taken into account. Ultimately left as they made it impossible to return post-pregnancy.
