This was one of the weirdest experiences I've had in a while. I applied for an interview somewhere last year and was immediately invited for an online training following a short call on WhatsApp with HR. It was a red flag, but I let it slide since the girl was super nice and friendly. For those of you who couldn't find a LingoTurtle learning platform to check the details, it's because it doesn't exist. The actual name of the school is different. So here are the insane facts: 1. They make you sit and listen to two 1-hour-and-30-minute training sessions that are borderline useless. 2. The trainer was this strange guy who talked more about himself than the actual work and introduced us to the concept of Chinese people as if we had never heard of the nation. His feedback on my use of English was fair for the most part, but he was overfocusing on some phonetic remark regarding the /w/ and /v/ phonemes that he clearly didn't learn well, and I failed to understand what he was talking about on two separate occasions. 3. They will invade your PC 🤣. They schedule a call with this IT guy who needs to remotely connect to your device to check it. Initially, I refused this, but they stated that the process would be terminated if I didn't comply. So, I created a separate user on my PC without administrative privileges and let the IT guy access it. He then proceeded to open command prompt and was visibly frustrated that the command he was entering wasn't being executed and told me: "This will be a problem if you cannot resolve it in the future. We won't be able to fix any issues." 5. Then, after all of this, they weren't nearly done. HR will send you instructions on creating a fake identity and teach you how to present yourself as a Native speaker from the UK, the USA, etc. They will prohibit you from working near windows or doors since they do not want students and parents to see you in the wrong time zone (they can figure out if they see it's daytime or nighttime on camera). Overall, I didn't go through years and years of college and professional training to be forced to create an alternative persona for $5 per hour. No thank you. 🤣
