Pros

The people they hire can be smart: interesting conversations in the break room sometimes.

Cons

For profit tutoring company that is essentially a glorified phonics and reading comprehension cram school for children whose parents can afford the 140 dollar an hour tuition. They have all these studies they love to tout that proves its efficacy, but it's essential thus: if you take a pretest designed to test what they want to test and you study for four hours a day for six weeks somewhat assiduously, you will improve on said tests-doesn't matter if is phonics, comp, or underwater basket weaving. As for the techniques they are annoying and soul crushing for any poor student to do four hours straight. Air writing 4 syllable nonsense words over and over is an example of pointless cruelty. A question that is seldom asked, but far more essential after any instruction is: "has the child increased his or her love of learning?", but alas we live in an age where education is test scores and a means to an end. I fear that the student will associate all future school and learning with a tedious and joyless experience that is offered to them here. They also pay their clinicians close to min wage, make them sign a contract forbidding them to tutor anywhere else, and will make you feel that you are quite expendable. Just awful.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We take comments like yours into consideration when we review training and communication materials. All instruction staff should understand the goal of individualized instruction and have a good grasp of the purpose of the program steps and intensive intervention. We appreciate your candor in providing your perspective about the value of our instruction. Neurological and behavioral research by parties unrelated to Lindamood-Bell as well as controlled studies by a variety of university research programs are the validation of Lindamood-Bell's student instruction. While the clinician role may not be a right fit for everyone, the positive effect of our approach on student lives should be evident. We believe the ability to learn is an essential precursor to developing a love of learning. We will continue to improve on how well we help staff understand what they are doing and why. Thank you again for your review.

Pros

It’s great to try to help people, but…

Cons

They’re so set on their particular philosophical style, but realistically, it cannot be one size fits all. Clinicians who work there are NOT experts; they only get two weeks of training. And the sessions are extremely tight, with back-to-back students (just five minutes between each, leaving no time to prepare for the next one and no chance for clinicians to catch a breath). Lessons take place in cramped, mostly shared spaces, so everyone tends to be over-stressed. There’s no way that what is taught there, and the environment in which it’s taught, is worth what they’re charging families. Not to mention that the staff break room is like the size of a closet, and even in that tight space, many people just aren’t very friendly and hardly acknowledge your presence.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We appreciate that our mission of helping students reach their learning potential resonated with you. At the same time, we are disappointed to read your comments regarding training, scheduling, and your experience with our instructional model. Our initial training is designed to prepare clinicians to begin working one-to-one with students using our unique approach. That training continues through ongoing mentoring and instructional guidance from experienced staff members who oversee lesson planning, monitor student progress, and support instructional quality. This team-based model is central to our instructional approach and to supporting student outcomes. We regret that the purpose and value of this model were not evident during your employment. We also recognize that learning center work can be demanding, particularly during busy periods, and we appreciate your perspective regarding scheduling and the work environment. Feedback such as yours is valuable as we continue working to improve communication and the overall staff experience. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
