Do Not Work Here If You Want To Be Respected And Valued - Junior Copywriter Lime Advertising Employee Review

Pros

Office hours are 9-5 Mon to Friday, weekends and holidays off

Cons

CEO runs everything and trusts no one, not even his loyal and senior employees. No respect for employees, curses at them when things dont work out (mainly because he sets unrealistic client and employee expectations). There's a bad vibe in the office, everyone is stressed, unhappy and afraid of the CEO. Treats everyone like they're replaceable and even says it to their faces. Very high turnover. Stress level is high in all departments, not enough people and too much work. Owner is cheap and doesn't want to hire more people and current employees are all underpaid and over worked. Make sure to discuss vacation time and time off in your interview and contacts. They only pay accrued vacation, not annual...no matter your tenure. This means if you want a 2 week or 1 week vacation, you would have to wait until towards the end of the year or else you will have to take unpaid days since you havent accumulated enough time. Nothing is as advertised or discussed in your interview. They lie to cover up and reel you in. No room or opportunity for growth, you might even lose your skills since they dont allow you to do what it is they hired you for. Projects get taken away from you with no warning and for no reason. Lack of structure, no processes in place. They just wing it. There's no training, you get yelled at when you do something wrong even though you weren't told what is right or wrong. They change the process or their minds about things as they please.

Lime Advertising Response

Hi there, we are sorry to hear you feel this way about your time at Lime Advertising. Our small boutique advertising agency isn’t for everyone and we understand you didn’t enjoy your time with us. Nevertheless, our CEO and staff members have always valued each other and everybody continues to treat each other with the utmost respect and trust. That’s why we’ve been fortunate enough to retain some of our staff members for 15 years. Like any workplace, we go to work to get results for our clients. Providing clients 100% effort and taking pride in our work is a minimum requirement for our team. We won’t lie; working in modern-day advertising is no walk in the park. Albeit a fast-paced industry that is always changing, working at Lime provides dedicated employees plenty of rewards, growth opportunities, and respect. Regarding vacation, our practices are in line with many other Canadian employers. Again, thank you for submitting your feedback.

Pros

When I worked there, the copywriters and senior art director were brilliant and always a pleasure to work with. We had some great clients as well that were always open to new ideas, and super flexible.

Cons

The moral in the office was at an all time low when I left Lime. There was no work culture at all, or incentives for employees. Our boss (who is also the president of the company) barely cared for the well-being of employees. He would overpromise Lime's clients with cheap fees and overwork the employees. There was some underlying tensions between a few employees and he barely did anything to intervene or resolve any issues. He typically sided with one senior employee and they would spend a lot of time behind closed doors together. This senior employee was also not a good example of a hard worker, as he would barely make deadlines, and wouldn't deliver when he was asked - probably because he was spending so much time in our boss' office not working. If you want a positive experience at a marketing agency, Lime is not it.
