Pros

Plenty of growth opportunities Access to plethora of optical knowledge Ability to earn certifications that aid in credibility and increase wages Great discounts on eyewear Option to travel with OneSight, company charity that gives free glasses and eye exams to those who cannot afford them otherwise Very fun, energetic, knowledgeable staff Great benefits for full-time employees

Cons

This type of retail job is not like the average clothing or shoe store--optical knowledge is required in order to adequately sell prescription eyewear. You have to put in the work during training which can take up to 12 weeks depending on retention level. Most stores are located in malls therefore weekly hours are not consistent and working on holidays is mandatory Hourly pay is not adjusted based on degrees or experience--have to transfer to different stores or become a manager in order to receive higher wage (and even that is not accurate if college educated) Must have great customer service skills in order and be able to adjust to all types of situations in order to be successful
