Pros

I really feel like I'm making a difference in the community. The Lehigh Valley isn't a news desert yet, but it has definitely needed good, in-depth local news coverage for a while, and I've been so glad to be able to provide that. I am getting great reporting experience with good mentors to help me grow. There is an emphasis on work/life balance which is nice, although people do tend to work more than 40 hours, but I think that's the nature of journalism. The pay is also good for the field.

Cons

The business as a whole is a bit disorganized, as is the case with most nonprofits. It takes me a while to even explain to my sources who we are -- I've settled on saying "we're the digital initiative of PBS39 and WLVR," which is still confusing. There doesn't seem to be a lot of collaboration between our many platforms, which is unfortunate, but it doesn't impact my day-to-day work.
