Pros

Leadnomics is a great place to start if you’re trying out the startup culture for the first time. You get perks like free food, some beer, flexible work schedule, open floor office plan, inspirational wall posters and wood/steel decor. You will learn what you want and do not want out of a company. They know how to hire great talent. Many of the ground-level employees are exceptional professionals.

Cons

They can’t hold onto talent. Several of the previous posts acknowledge management shortcomings alluding to this. Below are a few factors as to why Leadnomics is not a place for top-tier professionals: • Lack of transparency towards business practices. • Lack of transparency towards business direction. • Lack of energy or enthusiasm. • Leadership is nonexistent. • No real trajectory for anyone ambitious. • There is more focus on having the surface look of a startup than actually running like a smart one. It is difficult to discuss Leadnomics without discussing the other companies related to it. They are very incestuous. A cofounder of Leadnomics is also the cofounder of several other businesses that all run into similar issues. What culture exists is akin to that of a frat. Very suitable for males, much more difficult for women. There is no true strategic vision. For a 7-year-old business that plays as a fresh startup, things are very rote and there is little excitement in the day to day, week to week, month to month. You definitely feel like a production function than having a stake in the success and identity of the company. The cofounders will travel abroad and flaunt it while you sit in the office pushing out the project flavor of the week. This would be fine if compensation wasn’t simply entry-level pay. Expectations in the quality and productivity of work is that of senior level quality and commitment. Do not expect to be rewarded for this. Your production is expected and chalked up to being a part of the “start up hustle.” This hustle has occurred for 7 years and ongoing. Do not expect it to end anytime soon. There are other companies in Philadelphia that expect the hustle, but reward you for it. Business practices are questionable. There is plenty written about those practices, all it takes is a quick Google search of the founders to learn about them. There is a culture of fear. Since the employee exodus started occurring across all companies, tactics are used to keep current employees from knowing of or even attempting to look at opportunities outside of Leadnomics (and her other counterparts.) Pettiness. People within this company will keep tabs on you after you’ve left. They all talk to one another. There is no confidentiality in reporting to your direct superior—you will be “told on” as though you are still in some elementary school social scene. This will happen despite you and others having left the company. Hierarchy. You are definitely working for management, not with management.

Leadnomics Response

There are numerous valid points in this review and I’d like to address each of them. Back in November, I joined Leadnomics as Chief Operating Officer to help facilitate an organizational re-design process that further enables the company to scale its growth and maximize it’s fullest potential. Over the past five months, we have reorganized a number of areas within the company due, in part, to some of the legitimate points being outlined in a couple of these recent reviews. Part of the organizational design included the following: * With regard to transparency, we now offer staff meetings with information finances, operations and goals for employees and the company. We believe that every one of our employees, or ‘stakeholders’ has a voice in the operation and now hold stakeholder meetings every 4-6 weeks with progress reports in between as needed. * As for direction and focus, we have instituted goals/MBOs for every employee in the company which includes a bonus plan tied to personal progress against those MBOs along with corporate goals * Regarding trajectory for ambitious employees, we have internally promoted eight employees in the past four months; three of those elevated were to management roles and two of the eight were promoted, were to director roles * As far as compensation. Leadnomics strives to be at, or above the market averages for every employee. Compensation includes great benefits, 401k match, bonuses and a state-of-the-art technology/working environment It is understandable and regrettable that any reorganization can leave some employees feeling somewhat disenfranchised, but as I said previously, many of the concerns listed in this post were valid but have already been addressed. While no company is perfect, we are striving to give our employee stakeholders the best working environment possible with a track for growth and compensation.

Pros

I was paid while working mostly from home, so this was something notably positive from my experience. Would recommend to a friend due to this! From my perspective, and those I worked closely with, the work culture requires a high degree of adaptability and emotional resilience to navigate effectively. I was not capable of meeting the expectations of Leadnomics leadership, so I made the decision to depart due to the feedback I received regarding my own inadequacies. I learned a lot from this experience!

Cons

It’s worth noting that I signed a non-disparagement agreement upon joining this company, which limits my ability to share specific feedback. Prospective employees should carefully assess whether the company’s culture and leadership style align with their own working preferences. I took some time to reflect before writing this review, as the leadership style left a strong impression and required careful thought to evaluate my experience. The company does not have a dedicated HR department, which can make navigating workplace concerns or policies more challenging. Employees seeking formalized support structures might find this environment less accommodating, but since it is a startup, this is not out of the ordinary.
