Pros
The main pros is the great pay and if you love to travel and be on the road this may be the job for you. It also is physically demanding and if you like to work with your hands in mechanics you will have no problem having a good time if you are with a good crew.
Cons
There are an unending amount of dangers within the job that can result in loss of life or limb. However, Layne Christensen as a company promotes safety constantly and wholeheartedly. Nevertheless, the execution of safety does not always make its way to the field. There are more than less I would say of crew leaders and drillers who will disregard safety in the sake of production, ego, and bonuses. If you are a person of color or any ethnicity other than Caucasian and do not like for that to be ridiculed for being so than this job is not for you. Racism is rampant in this area of work and it is definitely prevalent in in the Elko, Nevada branch. There is something to be said that within this area of work racist remarks can be seen as a terms of endearment. Still, there are those who may be crew leaders, head drillers, and/or management who will run you off the of job with deliberate racism and when it comes to the legal side of it all when one may want to retaliate against such hate it will nevertheless be swept under the rug and forgotten. If any of these issues concern you as it did I, DO NOT WORK THIS JOB.
