Pros

Often hire those without any "real" experience, which is essential in this job market. Very interesting and diverse work available. Despite being a paralegal you are essentially doing a caseworker's job, so you learn very fast. Paralegals help each other and have great comradery. Depending on manager, work pattern can be flexible.

Cons

Business model is built on exploiting desperate law graduates early in their career, still passionate about social justice. Therefore, unlikely to change substantively. Bullying (by one particular solicitor) is an open secret and tolerated by management. Said solicitor often run through paralegals. The latest escapee had to take two weeks off from stress. Paralegals are not provided with enough training and are expected to hit billing target very quickly. There are hidden targets (performance markers you are expected to hit but not communicated to you). Pay is not competitive at all, thus a very high turnover rate. There are maybe 2 - 3 paralegals that lasted more than a year.
