Pros

Pays the best rates for fundraising jobs in Baton Rouge, Has invested in back office operations (portfolio managers, research, data)

Cons

Cut 41 people during the pandemic while the organization was ahead of its goals during its capital campaign — purely a business decision and absolutely outrageous

LSU Foundation Response

Thank you for the opportunity to provide context for this criticism. LSU’s academic fundraising goals changed shortly before the pandemic. In spring 2020, we re-envisioned the LSU Foundation to drive immediate-use dollars, with a focus on scholarships. We have an important fiduciary responsibility to be excellent stewards of our funds. The layoff decision was made realizing that many good people would be impacted during a very difficult time. The LSU Foundation provided continuation of 100% of salary and benefits, extended free access to our employee assistance program, and free placement services through both an employment agency and our in-house Talent Management staff. Nearly every person impacted by the layoff successfully secured employment before the time period for this support lapsed. Additionally, in the past year, former employees of the LSU Foundation have returned to the LSU Foundation to fill vacancies. We are truly sorry that the poster’s perception of the LSU Foundation is so negative. Last year was a challenging year for many organizations. As we move forward, our focus is on continuing to support our team as we work together to meet LSU’s extraordinary academic potential.
