Pros
There seems to be a somewhat friendly atmosphere between lower-level employees. Everyone I met who was not in a manager position was welcoming, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Cons
The company benefits are essentially bottom of the barrel. Vacation payed out at 4% first year, or accrued so that you can take 10 days vacation next year. Vacation increases to 15 days after 5 years (I believe) followed by 20 days after 8 years (again, as far as I remember) I was surprised to learn they do have a matching program for RRSPs. Health benefits were decent but nothing crazy (3 month probation period). It's likely that if you are in good health you won't get the value of paying into your medical plan. They recently added a fitness membership reimbursement which is 300 dollars toward a membership or ski passes ect. That was pretty awesome. Now to the juicy stuff - management. The management at the Ottawa and Cumberland locations are truly abhorrent, apart from a couple diamonds in the rough. Thankfully the nepotism-based supervisor who I was previously under got pushed to quit by her superiors, and my level headed, compassionate and extremely hard working co-worker was able to take her place as the dispatch manager. Unfortunately it took her about 6 months in the role to get compensated fairly for her hard work. She was essentially running the department for close to minimum wage. Superior to my supervisor was the location manager for Cumberland. I was never sure if he genuinely cared about the people he managed, but toward the end of my employment there it seemed like he did. I can tell that at the very least he cared for his company and was somewhat compassionate. He recognized I was in a role that I was severely over-qualified for, and he took steps in order to retain my talent. Again, not sure if he actually cared for me or just recognized that I was more than a pair of arms that could move items around. The general manager of both sites didn't talk to me for about 6 months, and when he would greet me he would say "how ya doing?" In the most flat affect, and proceeded to walk by without making eye contact. My first few interactions were short and he barely acknowledged my existence. We had longer conversations once I was found to be tardy frequently, where he would call me into his office with my 2 other superiors and talked in circles for 30 minutes. 1 conversation we had, in which I expressed to him that the physical labour job was starting to grind me down, and make make my back soreness a nightly occurrence, he responded that he works out everyday, so I should be just fine continuing on. He carries him self with the self-confidence of a Maserati salesman, but talks himself in circles like a middle manager of a fading used car-parts company. It's genuinely impossible to have a conversation with him, because of how often he switches to unrelated talking points and analogies. TLDR: Colleagues at the company are nice, management is extremely poor
