Pros
You gain litigation experience from start to finish. The experience is in the automobile, but decent learning experience for new attorneys.
Cons
Paralegals are overwhelmed by high caseloads and months behind. Many legal assistants spend more time manipulating the system than actually working. As an attorney, there's little you can do to change this; you're left to manage it, while management claims it's your problem to handle. And the assistants know they are untouchable if the metrics show they are active for 5 out of the 7 hours a day. Keep in mind, simply touching the keyboard once for that hour will make you appear active for that hour. With a high caseload, you need a legal assistant willing to work, or you will be stuck addressing all the deficiencies yourself.
