Pros

Kroll has an enviable market position, with good software that is well-established at main pharmacies in Canada. It is a good company, and you would be working with some pretty smart and capable people. The staff is mostly pretty youthful, and friendly.

Cons

The company is chaotic, and management and technical staff neither listen to each other nor respect each other. That rift needs to be fixed, if the company is to continue to succeed, however even in its current state, the company is solid and technically well positioned to continue to do well in its field. Things could be so much better though.

Pros

Not many pros besides some of the usual that you'll find at other software companies like a casual environment and flexible hours.

Cons

During my time here, I saw the environment go from somewhat friendly to somewhat hostile between the lead/senior developers and the other developers. It was not a comfortable place to work, especially near the end, when the senior developers began super micro managing our work and our tasks. Of course, this did not vibe well with the developers and the atmosphere became very tense. There is little to no fostering of learning. Management does not care about how the developers are learning and how they are being challenged. Creating new solutions and bettering the process is also somewhat discouraged. They like to stick with their own tried and tested methods. There is poor teamwork between the developers. It is hard to get help and there is no process for sharing information and for teaching other developers. I felt like information was a secret and that they didn’t want anyone to know how things worked. Aside from this, the compensation is very average and the benefits are not great. There were no sick days when I was at Kroll so people came in sick and it was very easy to catch someone’s sickness due to the close quarter seating arrangement. Overall, it was not a great experience and I do not recommend it for developers. You will have to break a hard barrier to progress quickly. The potential for learning is rather low which is further worsened by the older technology that they use.
