Pros

I have been with the agency since the late 1990s. Looking back, I can confidently say it was the best career decision I ever made. My hard work has led to multiple promotions, leading me to a role that I find deeply fulfilling and one I plan to stay in until I retire. The most obvious differentiator compared to others in our industry is the leadership's commitment to our future. We are incredibly fortunate that the executives have remained committed to staying independent; rather than selling to private equity where we would all become a number, or worse. The transition to a 100% employee-owned ESOP was a gift that truly is second to none. Because we are all owners, there is a collective pride in our work. We are not just hitting a quota for a corporate brand, we are all building financial value for ourselves and each other. ESOP provides a level of security rarely found. As a small business, the environment is much more personal than what you’d find at a massive enterprise. It is a fantastic fit for anyone who values a strong work-life balance and a "family-first" culture. Financially, the company has been supportive. My competitive salary, 401k contributions and ESOP rewards have been generous to the point that I am on track to retire comfortably and earlier than I previously thought was possible. High performers are seen, heard, and appreciated here. The reputation we hold within the insurance industry is top-notch. Our team takes great pride in representing this agency throughout the industry and our local community.

Cons

Because we are a smaller operation, we don't always have the "big corporate" bells and whistles or the massive infrastructure of our largest competitors. Additionally, because the culture is so loyal, there are times when poor performers are permitted second or even third chances to improve, which can occasionally put extra weight on the high achievers. This isn’t the right place for a job hooper. If you are someone looking to gain a little experience before moving on to another opportunity this won’t be the right fit. If you want to learn from others, grow into more than you are today, challenge yourself and if you are looking for a place to call home for the long haul, you’ll fit right in.

Pros

Starting a new job always comes with a mix of excitement and uncertainty, but this experience has exceeded my expectations in every way. Even just 7 months in, I can confidently say I’ve felt genuinely appreciated from day one. Leadership is present, supportive, and intentional about recognizing effort and contribution. The employee owned environment gives you a voice, and your ideas are taken seriously. There’s also a strong culture around building trust and relationships not just closing deals or checking boxes both internally and with clients. I’m genuinely excited to be here and to see where this journey goes.

Cons

The level of ownership could be an adjustment for some at first, but it is also what makes your role so empowering!
