Pros

Minimal. Office is nice enough. Pay is good.

Cons

Constant lateness on deadlines. Dis-functioning office. No regard for green design - or even recycling for that matter. Projects are very dated. Client's requests are ignored. Projects are half done and rushed out the door. Everything needs to be done yesterday. Passive aggressive office. Primarily hires from church, not on qualification. High turnover. Almost no benefits. Poor treatment of vendors and reps.

Kirkpatrick & Associates Response

We are sorry you did not enjoy the short time you worked with Kirkpatrick & Associates. We are primarily a hospitality design and procurement firm. Our innovative design is focused on meeting the needs of clients within their budgets and within the standards set by the property's franchise. Often creativity has to be matched to franchise standards and the owner's budget. Our designs are not dated but have to meet standards that we often do not set. We have been successful with getting franchises to accept new standards, suppliers and designs. These designs have been used as brand standards and in national advertising campaigns. We have produced, and continue to produce, award wining projects. Most of our projects are for returning clients. We work closely with and have good relationships with our vendors and sales representatives. They often use our facilities to present continuing education seminars for the local architecture and design community. We do not agree that we hire based on belief and not qualification. While the reviewer was employed we did hire one temporary employee to answer phones, file, help in our retail operation and remove discontinued samples from the library. The temporary employee was a member of our church that we did not know before the interview. We have never hired based on religious affiliation. We are always under a deadline, and it gets busy. That is why we would love to have more qualified designers. Please apply as we are currently hiring. We need people who can handle working on more than one project at a time. We offer company paid medical insurance, bonuses, extra holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, optional vision and dental coverage and competitive compensation in a great location.

Pros

Working or interning at Kirkpatrick & Associates is a great opportunity to gain experience in the hospitality interior design industry. The owner is patient with interns and employees who are still learning software such as AutoCAD, and I was able to improve my AutoCAD skills during my internship. The owner also makes an effort to involve employees in the design process, providing valuable insight into how projects develop from start to finish. As a full time student, I really appreciated the flexibility with my class schedule, which made balancing work and school much easier. In addition, the owner's assistant is knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions, making the learning environment very supportive.

Cons

The workload can become fast paced when multiple projects are happening at the same time, so being able to adapt and stay organized is important. Clear and direct communication with the owner is also essential to ensure expectations and project details are understood. Not necessarily cons but good to know.

Pros

Kirkpatrick & Associates offers a unique opportunity to be involved in nearly every aspect of hospitality design and procurement. Employees are trusted with meaningful responsibilities and have direct exposure to project management, purchasing, vendor relations, client communications, and operations. The work is varied, fast-paced, and rarely repetitive. Team members who are motivated and willing to learn can gain experience well beyond the scope of a traditional administrative role. Leadership expects a high level of accountability, but employees who demonstrate initiative are given significant trust and autonomy. The work can be rewarding because you can see projects move from concept to installation and know your efforts directly contribute to project success.

Cons

The pace can be intense, and priorities shift frequently. The role requires strong organizational skills, resilience, and the ability to handle interruptions.
