Pros

- The people are really great and supportive of progress - Kier are always looking for ways to celebrate your successes together such as the Pride of Kier event or Chartership dinner - Parental leave is really good compared to many other places - I've progressed in my career and been given many development opportunities such as undertaking leadership training with Cranfield University and I am currently taking part in a mentorship programme - Flexible working hours allow me to work around my life and not the other way round

Cons

- The biggest con is the current booking system for hotels. If you are a management grade (i.e. not the head of something) or lower you are put in hotels that are often run down, further from the location you are visiting and lacking basic facilities like air con in a heat wave. This doesn't match the high standards you get elsewhere in the company. I am making a personal sacrifice to spend my personal time away from my comfortable home and family, so I do expect a better level of respect than a shabby run down hotel to save the company some money. I've worked for a number of companies and unfortunately this is the worst one for booking hotels. We are a large company we should have a business account with a large chain such as premier inn where quality is almost always guaranteed and we get a good rate due to the volume we send their way. Like it is for many other construction companies that I have worked for.

Pros

Visible and accessible strong leadership from senior management. Excellent development and engagement to make you feel valued and rewarded. Great employee benefits such as pensions, sharesaves and discount schemes

Cons

None, except the industry as a whole finds it difficult to attract people to a very enjoyable construction and infrastructure market sector
