Pros

Opportunity to receive Marriot benefits - nothing more.

Cons

Coming into this company, I had very high expectations; only for them to be shot down with a Silver Bullet. Please do not confuse this review as an attempt to get back at the company as a disgruntled former employee, because that would be incorrect. The sole purpose of this review is to forewarn anyone into thinking that they are going to be part of a truly “grand company” - unfortunately you Will be deceived, just as I was. At first you are led to Believe that this is a professionally staffed company. If this is an idea that you might have, well it would be best for you to erase that from your mind, because that IS false information. Going in to the company you are presented to be a very important person, while all of the management team puts on an “act” to make you think that they are a great team to work for. Once you have gotten in the door and through orientation however, the blinds are pulled up and the truth reveals itself. I have been a server for several years, however I wanted to take a backseat to that part of the industry. I was offered a position for a food runner for a “decent” pay, which I accepted. Please note that this position was the FIRST in this particular location’s history. Once I was finished with orientation, I was made to believe that not only would I be running food, but I would also be expediting through the week - for the SAME pay, which was absolutely ridiculous. Not only that, but I was also led to believe that I would not be getting tipped out by any of the servers/cocktail waitresses/bartenders; which if anyone has been in the service industry as long as I have, you’d know that if you have a food runner, they are to be tipped out - just as a busser or bartender would. The idea that they could deceive me into accepting ONE rate for doing TWO jobs was not only a mistake on their part, but absolutely ridiculous. When I brought these issues to management, they acted as if they were stunned by my words. They tried to make up stories and also contradicted themselves throughout the conversation. Upper management is pathetic, there is no sense of professionalism and there is also a problem with being able to keep “their lid on”, if you will, due to the frustration and anger that I could hear brewing in the management’s tone of voice. Direct management is scarce to say the least, and it also seems that there is a lot of fraternization going on between hourly staff and management, which is absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. When you have a problem and there is no direct management to turn to, the next chain of command is HR, however going to HR it seems that they have an issue with you not going through this “chain of command” and in turn they get frustrated with you. This is also unacceptable because if direct management is nowhere to be found, HR is the only other option that there is. And I nfortunately HR is the ONLY higher rank to speak with, seeing as how they do not have a general manager, and who knows how long it’s been since they’ve actually had one. Perhaps this is the reason why the food and beverage managers deem it OK to schedule new employees in training a 7 to even 10 hour shift, sometimes even without a break (that they claim is required). They say that they are preparing you for success, but the only thing that they are preparing you for is failure. There is no one around to talk to that’s in a management position, they do not give you the tools or materials (like a trading manual to help guide you when there is no one there to do so) and they do not follow up on how your training is going. So - so much for “success”. If you will take nothing from this review, at least you have been forewarned about their so-called “reputation”. They should be ashamed of themselves to the highest possibility and if you continue to seek out employment with this company, you will eventually find out the truth for yourself.

Pros

Serving as General Manager at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook has been an incredibly fulfilling chapter in my career. Over the past year, I’ve experienced a remarkable balance between professional growth and personal well-being. I’m proud to lead a team that’s not only talented but genuinely collaborative and inspiring. The unwavering support from our corporate leadership has empowered us to elevate the guest experience and strengthen our culture. It’s been a journey defined by purpose, passion, and progress.

Cons

Some modification to benefits on the medical side would be good. Otherwise very happy.

Pros

Similarly very diverse seemingly wonderful culture

Cons

I was hired at almost 2 dollars less than the people that were hired a week before and a week after me. Evem with 5 plus years in hospitality. Within 3 days I was degraded in front of a guest. So bad that they wrote about their experience. Nothing was done. After a meeting with H. R the person who actually did the degradation try to retaliate against me. And said that I threatened and made them feel unsafe.. you can try to pull the anger man card. So after checking cameras and doing their investigation, I'm still employed. I still work with this person. I don't feel safe because this person has lied on my name. Once and I'm sure we'll do it again. How is this allowed to happen with HR? And all the established rules and regulations
