Unfortunately there is a strange air of elitism and assumed value or importance of those who work in CITY HALL compared to the rest of the actual working employees throughout the rest of the city. Staffing numbers and pay rates are erratic, and very disproportionate between departments. example;10 highly paid employees in I.T. , 5 employees in H.R. yet 1 fulltime employee and one part time employee to operated and perform all maintenance of a 1000 acre airport. 460 mowable acres and 4 million sq ft of plowable surfaces. A Library aid makes over $20.00 and hr while an Airport Operations staff member working on live runways, communicating with pilots and is responsible for safe landings and snow and ice control makes $15.00. There is definitely an elitist mentality. also very liberal. If you are conservative stay quiet. They WILL terminate you without a thought or regard for your service no matter how good or how long. Lots of secretive discussions. lack of transparency, favoritism around the city, lots of waste and unnecessary expense to the taxpayers. Very top heavy.
