Pros

Money. If you haggle for a higher salary they'll cave to it. If you're interested in the craft the work can be a lot of fun. If you don't value your freedom and individualism, and have the time to make the money, do it! Unless you go engineering. There's enough of a double-standard for the engineering side to actually enjoy their work-life.

Cons

RACISM goes uncorrected at all levels of management. If you're not in a personal relationship with the CEO, based on past hires, your chances of GETTING FIRED go up significantly. You're not entitled to basic human dignity in the decision making AND there is NO RETIREMENT PLAN.

We appreciate the review from "Former Employee-Installation Technician," and we think it's great that prospective applicants can get some insight into our company. We do have a few comments: 1. SALARY. We're happy to see that the reviewer acknowledges that the pay is good. We try to pay a competitive salary and try hard to reward good employees with good compensation. 2. BENEFITS. We offer top of the line UPMC health insurance for employees and their families, paid 100% by KbPort, with no employee contribution. We think that is fairly uncommon. We also offer a 401K plan with a 4% company match that is open to all employees, and life insurance paid 100% by KbPort. 3. RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION MAKING. We actively try to push decision making down the chain of command so that all employees who are capable can exercise responsibility and make decisions on their own. This is especially important with our installation staff, who are often on the road and making decisions on the spot. We very much value initiative and independent decision making. That said, responsibility for important things is earned, not given. KbPort is responsible for the livelihoods of over 30 employees and their families, and we take that responsibility seriously. If employees show they are capable of assuming responsibility they will be able to do that, and if they are not we will continue to work with them until they are. 4. RACISM. KbPort does not condone or tolerate racism, and we have and follow best practices against discrimination. 5. GETTING FIRED. We go out of our way to hire, train, and treat people in a manner that lets them work at a job they can be effective at and proud of, for the long term. Our turnover since the company began in 2005 has been unusually low and terminations are rare. Sometimes, however, it just can't be helped. It should go without saying that if you are going to, for example, smoke unknown substances in our bathrooms, store homemade porn on work computers, or routinely use obscenities with our customers, you will quickly get fired. It wouldn't be fair to our employees and their families to keep someone like that. If terminations for that type of conduct is a criticism of KbPort, we make no apologies for it. If a prospective applicant reading this is going to engage in that sort of conduct, do us both a favor and look elsewhere. KbPort LLC
