Pros
It can provide a work-life balance. Friendly employees. Great exposure and experience to university and outside stakeholders. Laid-back environment. Decent benefits.
Cons
This is a static and generic organization. Very conservative and hierarchical where there is no room for innovation or growth. Organization lacks in providing transparency about vision and strategy. IT systems and "their way" to do things are extremely archaic. The term "going above and beyond" sounds foreign for several employees, probably because the current environment: 1) no room or support for professional development, 2) no incentives or rewards for high performing and committed employees, 3) high turnover rate, 4) some managers struggle leading. Too many internal small committees that adds distraction instead of adding value.
