Utah's #1 Local News, but don't expect the pay to reflect that. - Video Editor KSTU FOX 13 Employee Review

Pros

The people in the newsroom really care about the news and each other.

Cons

Paid like we're running a Taco Bell. Compensation falls severely below what other local stations are paying. It's borderline criminal with how high our performance and ratings are. Upper management is aware of the market and see the people leaving, but do not care that their newsroom is understaffed, and that their employees are overworked and underpaid. If concerns surrounding this are voiced, we're told "deal with it, or there's the door." They'd rather lose long-time dependable, diligent, and knowledgeable employees than give them a fair/competitive wage. Heartbreaking.

Pros

Coworkers are genuinely talented, collaborative, and supportive Opportunity to gain hands-on experience quickly Some special projects (sports, long-form pieces) can be rewarding when they happen Good place to build basic production skills early in your career

Cons

Creativity is becoming increasingly devalued in favor of quick-turn, news-style content Leadership direction changes frequently, creating instability and low morale Promotions and opportunities tend to favor politics over actual talent Lack of long-term vision for day of news High turnover and burnout Feels more like a news factory than a creative power house Limited growth for employees who want to grow in their careers
