Pros

Lots on interesting projects working on all different materials Opportunities to manage your jobs from Schematic Design through Construction Young and friendly staff Leadership that cares for their employees and mentors their growth There is no limit to your potential if you work hard, take ownership of your work, and try to be a leader. I started at the bottom here and have climbed the ladder through hard work.

Cons

The workload can be overwhelming sometimes, but management tries to distribute work equally around the office and be responsive to employees request for help. As with any engineering position, it requires you to take ownership of your projects

Pros

The company has great engineering standards and drawings. All of the principals are willing to help if you have questions and everybody is very friendly. It is a great place to work, especially for entry level engineers. Working with DSA, you get an in depth knowledge base for the engineering code and standards required in Southern California.

Cons

The office is on the quieter side in terms of discussions and talking. Working with DSA, the deadlines and code requirements are very strict.

Pros

-Prestigious, large scale projects in all materials -Decades of experience in firm leadership -Industry recognized and awarded firm -Fast pace environment -Quiet office -grace period of 1-2 years for entry level hires before long hours and criticism begin

Cons

-Differing management styles by four (previously 5) principals -Massive turnover rate by entry level, lack of mid level employees, large number of upper management -Thorough feedback for individual growth not provided since projects are seldom if ever reviewed by management- cited as "individual ownership of project" -Yes culture, you will be doing the job of the architects, mechanical, electrical, general contractor, fabricator as if it is your job -development/lunch&learn meetings are unpaid "because lunch is provided" despite being mandatory. 100% billable hour culture, expected to learn new & unfamiliar concepts on own unpaid time. -Some clients and contractors openly ridicule and show a lack of respect to management -Rude management. "I don't read all the emails I receive" & Open verbal criticism of former employees, and those taking time off between management- everyone can hear it. Low morale by entry level. -regular perceivable tension among staff- support, drafting, engineering, management

KNA Structural Engineers Response

KNA greatly values all employees and their growth as an engineer. We are sorry to hear you were unhappy in your position and wish you had told us your concerns earlier. In response to some of your criticism, structural engineering is a challenging (and rewarding) job and engineers who take ownership of their work will thrive in any office including KNA. Overtime worked(if and when necessary), is rewarded with overtime pay or quarterly bonuses, and we never expect anyone to work for free.
