Pros
-Each team had quarterly activities, and the team members got to choose what they did. It was fun to do things with coworkers outside of the office, and it broke up some of the monotony of work. -The company was always striving to improve. We regularly talked about what we could work on and what we could change to do better. Feedback was important. -There were a lot of fun activities and events. It seemed as though everything was celebrated at KLAS. We had "Happy Thursday" once a month. We passed out Valentines, dressed up for Halloween, had potlucks, went to movies, and had fun competitions. -KLAS was family friendly. A lot of the holiday and party activities involved spouses and children. -KLAS employees tended to be hard working and take pride in their work. -The work KLAS does is important. We regularly talked about the impact of what we did. We heard examples of how our research was used in the real world. It was great to be part of something that helped so many people. The work done at KLAS ultimately helps the employees, their families, and their friends. It helps everyone who is involved in the healthcare industry and those who are patients.
Cons
-While I received raises, I was disappointed with developments regarding my pay. I went from working full time to working part time. My pay stayed the same, and I was told I would not be eligible for a raise. However, about that same time, KLAS posted a job opening for my position with a starting pay $1.50 per hour higher than my pay. The first time I talked to KLAS about this, I was told I had benefited from previous changes in pay but was simply not around to benefit from this one. The second time I brought this up, my manager actually looked into it, but my pay ultimately stayed the same. Up until this situation arose, I loved the KLAS culture. However, I felt it was unfair that after two years of employment I was not receiving even the minimum starting pay for my position. -While I appreciated that my schedule was flexible, I often felt pressured to make up any and all hours I took off. When I asked to take a day off for my grandmother's funeral, I was asked whether I would be able to make up my hours that week. -There aren't a lot of opportunities to move up in the company, and KLAS has a very high turnover rate. -KLAS likes to talk about how well they treat their employees and how much they pay their employees. They have a lot of fun activities, but they seem to care more about maintaining that image of culture than they do about the employees themselves.
