Pros
The school allows for an amount of holiday time that is rare in the ESL industry. I saw a lot last year and since you know your holiday will be at the end of each term, you can plan for it way in advance. It's paid too, which allows for a lot of travel in and around S/E Asia. Surabaya itself has it's features but being here is all about where you can get to more than the city itself. The teaching hours are fair and although sometimes it's five weeks between paychecks, I have never been paid late or incorrectly. The management is open and engaging with any problems and always productive when it comes to their resolution. The schools themselves are clean and well maintained, as are the houses. Kelt will look after you, just remember where you are going to, adjust your expectations or modern living accordingly and you'll really enjoy it! Having paid flights is another huge plus and takes a lot of sting out of moving so far away. I'd recommend this school to teachers who have some experience and can hit the ground running, you can flex here.
Cons
There is a syllabus here but it's in the process of being updated. Take the language point and run with it, try not to rely on the materials given. Teacher development, especially for newer teachers, needs some consideration. Kelt is in a kind of bubble and the outside world of modern ESL comes in externally via self motivated teachers. Having said that, if you're a creative person, teaching here will be very freeing. Professional progress within the company is a non starter in terms of positions. A person can become a bit too comfortable here and wonder exactly how good their teaching has become afterwards.
