Pros

Juro’s biggest asset is the people working there. I met some truly lovely people who I enjoyed working with.

Cons

I had initially intended to write a full length review covering the cons in detail, but decided to focus on one in particular: In October ‘23, I was one of several impacted by layoffs at Juro. This unfolded without any form of a redundancy package. After being made redundant on 18/10, I was placed on Garden Leave until 17/11, with no additional compensation beyond accrued holidays. While I accept that many companies are going through difficulties at the moment, the way in which Juro executed this process lacked empathy. This was quite shocking for a company whose supposed values include ‘Be More Human’.

Juro Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. I am sorry to hear that your experience with Juro was disappointing, despite enjoying working with your colleagues. Although negative reviews on Juro are happily rare at this point in time, we take them very seriously and try to learn any lessons we can. I understand your frustration regarding your exit package. We have held a retrospective on the event you mention and stand by our decision. As CEO my job is not to make everyone happy, it is to make our team successful and this often means taking the tough calls. To make an offer in excess of your contractual entitlement and our statutory responsibilities would not have been in the interests of the company. While being let go from a company is never a positive experience, I do want to recognise the hard work that was done by our P&T team. This included sharing profiles, delivering individual CV coaching and making recommendations to companies in our network. I do also want to clarify that our 'Be More Human' value is not at odds with this decision. Pros

- Interesting problem space in legal tech - Some genuinely talented and well-meaning colleagues - Exposure to AI/ML product development challenges

Cons

These reflections are about organisational fit, not individual capability. Every company has trade-offs. Technical Foundation: The codebase presented significant architectural challenges. Integrating modern AI capabilities often required building separate proof-of-concept systems rather than working within the core platform. Engineers who value clean architecture and technical sustainability may find this frustrating. Engineering Culture: Strong emphasis on velocity over code quality. Technical debt tends to accumulate. If you thrive in "move fast" environments and don't mind working around constraints, you may enjoy it. If you prefer investing time in proper foundations and refactoring, this may not be the right fit. Leadership Communication: Experienced conflicting direction from different parts of the organisation, which made prioritisation challenging and confusing. Leadership changes during my tenure contributed to uncertainty about team structure and strategy. Organisational Changes: Communication around restructuring could have been more transparent in my opinion. Would have appreciated clearer information about alternative role opportunities during team changes. Neurodiversity: If you require workplace adjustments (ADHD, autism, etc.), I suggest to have explicit conversations about accommodations with your manager and get commitments documented in writing. Ensure processes and expectations are clear before accepting an offer. Work-Life Balance: Expectations around responsiveness and delivery pace may be challenging. If you have difficulty in setting boundaries or health considerations, carefully evaluate whether this pace is sustainable for you before accepting. Note: My experience was within the Product/Engineering function of the business. I cannot speak to the culture in other departments.
