Pros

Sad to say, but the most creative, kindest and supportive women are the juniors to all the heads of departments who have no idea what they're doing. Heads refuse to listen to their teams and don't exercise the resource that is these women. Luckily, these girls don't let that get them down. They thrive. And while they are being silenced, pushed out, and told "no" they will drop everything they're doing in a second to help you. These girls are your friends, these women know how to get the job done, even when upper-management tells them not to. The only thing I am grateful for are these women.

Cons

I was an associate here for more than 3 years (an anomaly, believe me) both on the floor and Customer Care team and can confirm all of the negative reviews are accurate. Every positive review is written by either the CEO or her (very small) ring of lackeys. What was once an innovative and inspiring environment for women is now a toxic wasteland of doublespeak and aggressive behavior. While I didn’t work in corporate (despite having held higher positions at more successful companies, submitted consistent applications and worked at internships for the company), I was witness to my fair share of lies, favoritism, nepotism, sexism and racism. This was witnessed in the stores as well as corporate offices. “Why didn’t you just talk to HR or your manager?” Funny you mention it! There is no HR. Despite being a company of over 50 employees with plenty of HR-related complaints. And when you do come forward to your manager about inappropriate language or sexual harassment (flashing, casual use of the 4 letter R word, and unwanted over-sexual conversation) you are seen as a troublemaker and like clockwork you are adorned with a target tied to your back with a shiny, purple bow. The CEO finds it appropriate to text a group of her colleagues about the Women’s March on Washington (#workgoals, right?) but her flagship store manager (who has fired only black women, written up only black women, and has plenty of formal complaints against her) is a major and vocal DJT supporter. While in a traditional work environment you wouldn’t dream of discussing politics on the clock, but this is a company about "helping women feel beautiful and confident, starting from the inside out.” And that there folks is a direct quote. Lets talk benefits! So there are none. They try to pass off things like Commuter Benefits (pre-taxed Metro cards), PTOvand insurance as a benefit, but lets dive deep! Access to pre-taxed Metro cards, x-amount of days for sick leave, and health insurance are things the state of New York requires of businesses with the amount of people Journelle employes. Essentially, the “benefits” Journelle offers = bare minimum. As for the Customer Care role specifically - don’t do it. The manager comes from a start up that has very low customer satisfactory ratings (ironic.) Cannot spell or form a proper e-mail (also ironic, considering she is going to rate your job performance on vocabulary/spelling.) Sends out paystubs days after paychecks are deposited and has no problem throwing you under the boss for her missteps. Do sign on if you love magic tricks! She has a crafty way of disappearing -POOF!- throughout the day, summoning history of performance feedback from before you ever started working for the company, and she’s not too fond of having an assistant like most magicians. Where her associates have worked for the company longer and harder than she ever will, she refuses to listen to them when it comes to basic processes. She would much rather have the job done wrong instead of letting any of her teammates say anything right. No bunny rabbits though - can’t have it all I guess.

Pros

Small boutique, close knit staff, friendly customers, chill work environment

Cons

Not enough hours. Was supposed to be full time, but eventually only got scheduled 1-2 days a week, so I left. They often leave one person to work alone running the store and doing everything by themselves.
