Pros

Their mission is one of the best things about the company. There is no strict dress code, jeans and a t-shirt are the usual. You get to meet people that will open your eyes and inspire you. They also provide, or will pay for, lunch for you.

Cons

You will not be valued. Your opinion will not be valued. You're not allowed to ask questions or defend yourself in any way. You're only allowed to say "got it" in response to anything they tell you to do. If you don't you will get yelled at or ridiculed in front of the other employees. You are not allowed to express emotion while working. Word for word they tell employees "We expect you to leave everything outside that door. We want you to be emotionless. We want you to be robots, do what we tell you to do and don't question anything. If we could hire robots to replace you, we would." Anything other than positivity, such as stress, anger, frustration, sadness, will get you fired. 2/3 of your boss’s can't even take care of themselves. You will be expected to do their laundry, wash their dishes, clean their apartments, cook them food, and take care of their pets. These are personal chores that they don't do for themselves and pass along to their employees because "it benefits the company" You will be expected to walk one of the boss's dogs. You will be expected to clean up another boss’s cats pee, poop, and puke. You will be expected to disinfect all of the molded over plates and utensils they leave out. They’ve left food sitting on dirty plates for a week because they would rather have an employee wash it for them. Express anything other than positivity while being their personal maids and you will be fired. It’s already happened more than once. You will be a glorified housekeeper and they will pull you away from what you’re working on to go do their laundry or wash their dishes. Don’t expect to work on any project for longer than an hour before being pulled away to do something else. Best case scenario you’ll get to come back to your project in a few hours. Realistic case scenario they’ll give you so many other things to do you won’t come back to a project for a few days if not weeks. You are not allowed to befriend your fellow employees. You are not allowed to hang out with them outside of work, one employee even got in trouble over splitting an Uber with another employee. You are expected to work more than 40 hours a week and will not be paid overtime. Any work on the weekend will not be paid for, they consider it volunteer hours. They expect at least 9 hour days from you, longer if you don’t tell them at the start of the day that you “have a hard out” at your regular end-of-work-day time. They have a track record of not keeping employees for longer than 6 months They fired 15 new hires within a month of their employment. They would rather fire you then listen to your concerns. They will hold your dreams, their mission, and any resources they say they will provide you with over your head to keep you loyal and working. They will not keep their word. You have to work with the knowledge that there is absolutely no job security, at any moment they could fire you for no reason. You have to understand, they absolutely do not care about you, they do not value you, and they will take you for granted, and if you don’t put up with it you will be fired.

Pros

Please understand, I say all of this BOTH as a survivor of childhood cancer AND someone that Len Austrevich emotionally and mentally abused as an employee. There were no pros to this job. Thank god this company shut down. What little good they did for children with cancer was heavily outweighed by the misery that Len brought to his many employees of the years. The only positive was that many of my fellow co-workers were incredible people that also wanted to do good. I'm glad I got to meet them. Im sorry that they endured this abusive workplace.

Cons

This job was soul sucking. Its been years since I worked there and am leaving this review so people understand the real legacy of this place. It was one of the worst times in my life. There were some wonderful people working alongside me and I saw the light leave their eyes after a few months of scraping dog poop and cat vomit and cleaning the owners disgusting apartments - after being hired for a VIDEO PRODUCTION role. Read any of the negative reviews - they tell the real story. The positive reviews were written by management themselves or employees that were coerced / asked to write a positive review. FYI - Years ago we reported them to the Bureau of Labor - only to be told that J4M "didn't qualify as a real company" and therefore were out of the Bureaus jurisdiction. Just let that sink in for a minute.
