Pros

Competitive pay, lots of opportunities to try various different things if you are adventurous, the work of a leader here isn’t very mentally challenging.

Cons

Benefits are not competitive, there are lots of opportunities to move around but that is due to very high rates of turnover in various roles, despite leadership not being a very mentally challenging role here, it is very psychologically and emotionally taxing. You will be given very little genuine power or freedom, you will be told to enforce directives and initiatives that would destroy the business if you actually applied them, and you will be given goals that seem impossible and berated and punished if you don’t achieve them, and you will do this all with essentially zero help from anyone above you. You will have to consistently find ways to be successful despite who you work for, the company itself and its senior leadership is deeply problematic. A weird mixture of absentee and disconnected from reality, yet totalitarian and inflexible in how it will tell you to do your job. Hint, if you listen to them your business will collapse and your people will hate you (and you’ll get fired anyway by those same people for under performing anyway), so the bulk of your job is to find ways to “check the box” for what they are asking while attempting to run a legitimate business and be a successful leader. I don’t think anyone at the highest levels is aware of how close this whole business is to potentially imploding and never coming back. I imagine this is what the environment in GE felt like before things started to unravel.

Pros

Pro's depend on where you sit in the organization. Broadly, JCI is a focused, mission-driven organization leading sustainability and smart-building innovations worldwide. The technology is strong, very strong, we have a data-driven culture, and the work is meaningful. There are endless routes to professional development (you just need to put in the work), and you'll be exposed to teams and people of all walks of life from around the world. JCI's people are its greatest asset. There is a huge collection of really excellent people here. If you enjoy how that sounds, you'll enjoy working here.

Cons

The higher you climb, the more complex the organizational layers get. The closer you are to the customer, however, the less you'll see that complexity. Essentially, the Con's depend on where you sit in the organization. Broadly speaking, JCI sets high expectations that require resilience and adaptability. Your focus is occasionally taxed by news and moves from other levels of the org. You need to train yourself to focus on what matters most to you and not let what you can't control affect what you can control.

Pros

Decent pay, good PTO and benefits

Cons

Everything else. ZERO training. They hand you a laptop (which is garbage) and say good luck. There is no "team." Everyone is on their own. The senior techs all reached their peak 20 years ago and don't even know what BACnet is. The bureaucracy is unbearable. Ordering a simple part is nearly impossible. There are so many apps you have to check in on everyday and they care more about those metrics than they care about the service their customers are receiving. If you want to get your butt kicked everyday with zero support at a company that specializes in taking advantage of their customers, this is the job for you.
